All Abloom

Dear Friends,

I thought I’d share more color from our yard, but the last one is of
Copper from Saturday for his annual doctor’s appointment. He’s
always so good, and they love him, not to mention, the cute factor he
adds to this collection. 🙂 The first photo
are flowers given to me from
a friend when we met for lunch on Friday, a beautiful
surprise. Anyway,
I’ve included more wonderful quotes. Can
you choose a favorite?

“Just living is not enough…one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.”
~ Hans Christian Anderson

“Happiness radiates like the fragrance from a flower and draws all good things
towards you.”
~ Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

“Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love, and fearlessness.
If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love.”
~ Stevie Wonder

“Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature.”
~ Gerard De Nerval

“Love is the flower you’ve got to let grow.”
~ John Lennon

I hope you enjoyed this colorful post and the beautiful quotes, and I
wish you all a wonderful day and week ahead!

The Season’s Spirit

Blue-Christmas-Ornament-Backgound-Vector-Graphic

Guilt overshadows the season’s joy
when others’ loss becomes prevalent
They wish for a miracle of healing
their spirits hang on a thread so delicate

When will the blood stop shedding?
What will keep mouths from starving?
Do you hear it where you are?
The noise of despair is jarring

Is it so simple to say a prayer
for their anguish to be calmed
for love to hug their weary souls
for all to feel a connected bond?

This season of Magic, Miracles, and Faith isn’t joyous for everyone; for many it’s a Blue Christmas. So, may the Spirit find itself embracing all people, but especially those who are dealing with stress or depression from tragedy, and may Peace weave its way into their hearts, minds, and lives. Let us remember the Vision of “Goodwill to All Men.”

I’ll be away from blogging through the holiday weekend, so I wish you all a Christmas filled with an abundance of Love, Joy, and Peace. And a Big “Thank You” to all of you – both old and new friends – for your continued support here on WP.
~With Love, Lauren 💝

If You Believe

dolphin in the waves

Have you wished to fly
in the big blue sky,
soaring with angels near
and feathered friends so dear?

Think how incredible to swim
in the ocean on a whim,
with a chummy dolphin
and the biggest grin

Imagine strolling in a meadow
with a butterfly show
or tiptoeing amongst the stars
to the music of guitars

Lend an ear to what I propose
Close your eyes, twinkle your nose
Cross your arms, blink three times
Twirl around, you’ll hear the chimes

Music for All Ages

musical-notes

While stopped at a red light yesterday, I looked in my rear-view mirror and noticed the elderly woman in the car behind me. She must have been in her eighties, and she was literally rockin’ out. I couldn’t help but watch this adorable woman sing to her heart’s content, and my lips immediately formed a smile. She began snapping her fingers, too, and her rhythm was flawless.

Then I wondered what she was listening to. Perhaps Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey, Tony Bennett, or maybe even some Elvis or The Beatles? My curiosity was piqued, even though I wouldn’t have the chance to find out. The light soon turned green, and we both were on our way. However, she stayed behind me for a few more blocks, so I continued to watch her sing and wholeheartedly enjoy her tunes. As we parted ways, I silently wished her a joyful day, but clearly, she already had that taken care of.

This simple experience warmed my heart, so I wanted to share. It goes to show that music is for all ages, whether you’re listening, playing an instrument, or singing.

Also, here’s a guitar update for my daughter and I…we’re taking lessons with Josh Zee, who has been playing for over thirty years. He’s recorded 2 major label records on the SONY/Work label as the singer/guitarist and songwriter for the Rock group “Protein”. Josh’s next original band, “the Mother Truckers”, has released 4 albums, toured all over the country and Europe.
Needless to say, it’s been exciting to meet and work with him. Currently, we’re learning “Somebody Like You” by Keith Urban (for you country music lovers). We’re progressing, but it sure makes us appreciate those amazing guitar players who create the illusion that playing is absolutely easy. 🙂

And here are some model quotes for your enjoyment:

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”
― Bob Marley

“Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.”
― Maya Angelou

“Life is for the living.
Death is for the dead.
Let life be like music.
And death a note unsaid.”
― Langston Hughes

“Ah, music,” he said, wiping his eyes. “A magic beyond all we do here!”
― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Have an awesome Friday,
and let music
join you today!

Happy 7th Birthday to Our Forever Puppy!!

Copper in Autumn by Steph 2016

Copper by Michael 2

Happy 7th Birthday, Copper!!

I remember where you lived
as we walked to the door,
a little cramped for three
dogs on one tiny floor

But after a ten-minute walk
we took you to our car,
you jumped in the back
and it was only the start

You couldn’t see how
your life was changing
We had no idea just how
much we’d be gaining

I wonder where you’d be
if we hadn’t seen that site
Nothing matters now, though,
because everything is right

Rocking Back to the Past ~ Five Photos/Five Stories 5

When my Mom was five years old, her father built this rocking chair; it was the year of 1926. Freshly painted bright white with animal decals were the final touches. I can only imagine the expression on her little face when “Daddy” presented this to her. It has traveled from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Mom was born, far west to the sunny state of California. All of her daughters in their youth (my sisters and I) have shared the joy of this piece of history.

This priceless heirloom has lived in my sister’s homes for their children to use and appreciate. Then when our son and daughter were born, the charm of this gift touched them, as well. Over the years and more often than not, the thought of refinishing this mini rocker had drifted in and out of our minds. Although for some reason, it never happened.  Maybe we were afraid of erasing history. Nonetheless, it will remain as you see it in this photo and our hope is that in the far future our grandchildren will have the chance to rock too.

Sometimes memories are all we have of years gone by, at times photographs evoke past moments spent, and now and then, a piece of handcrafted furniture takes us back to people we love and have lost. It’s been over three years now. We miss you, Mom. ♥

I’d like to thank Jean at https://socialbridge.wordpress.com/ for tagging me in this fun photo challenge.

Here are the rules for the “Five Photos Five Stories” challenge: “Post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or a short paragraph and each day nominate another blogger for the challenge.

For my fifth and final nomination, I am tagging Michelle at http://michelleclementsjames.com/ (Book Chat) and I look forward to her contributions if she can find the time in between her wonderful book reviews.
