Refresh Button

copper in the fall

As summer bids farewell for yet another year, Autumn prepares for her entrance, and doesn’t she look lovely! With season changes, I’m often compelled to reorganize and do some fall cleaning. So, to begin with, I rearranged the furniture in our living room, something that has become an annual tradition and a way of inviting new perspectives wherever we choose to sit…

Maybe now we have the chance to watch the sunrise out of the big window while sipping our cuppa tea or coffee. Or we have a better view of a roaring fire when winter drops in for an extended stay and hot chocolate is on its way. Or the opportunity is more fitting to sit closer to someone we love for a treasured, intimate conversation.

Whatever the benefit, there is something about this change that offers a newness, a revitalizing start as we near the ending of 2018. I also love the coziness of this season – the warm hues, and the spicy aromas in the kitchen. I’ve already bought ingredients to begin pumpkin bread baking – one of my holiday baking traditions that everyone loves. So you see, this simple switch is like clicking on the refresh button on life. Even a small change can add a pinch of extra spice to this time of year.

May this season ofΒ Autumn bring a refreshing newness to your life, as well.
P.S. Copper sends his autumn wishes, too, (with lots of kisses).

  1. Funny, I’ve been clearing out the clutter too, Lauren. We haven’t gotten a taste of autumn air yet, but we should once Michael blows through today. I’m looking forward to breaking out the crock pot and doing some baking…once I get my next book under control and turned in! Enjoy! ❀

    • It’s so fun and now I know I’m not the only one, Jill. My son’s name is Michael and he feels really bad about the hurricane. Hope you’re doing okay. I also love using the crock pot, and look forward to making those warm fall and winter meals. But ironically, it’s supposed to warm up this weekend, which I’m not thrilled about. I’ve been enjoying the cooler, fall weather. I may just bake some pumpkin bread this weekend, though, even if it is warmer. Nothing like being in denial. πŸ™‚ I can’t wait for your next book, so please keep me posted. Have a good weekend and stay safe! πŸ’•πŸ‚πŸ

      • Thanks, Lauren. We did better with Michael than with Florence. I know what you mean…you get a taste of that cool and crisp air and you don’t want to go back to the heat and humidity. Hopefully it will be short lived. Have a great weekend! ❀

  2. Hitting the refresh button always helps.

In Singapore – tropics – we don’t have seasons. But we rearrange the furniture – throughout the apartment including the bedrooms – change the curtains and store away displays and bring out “new” displays. Lisa and I also play different music – light background music – to fit the season. Works for us.

I think the seasonal changes over at your place, Lauren, is much more telling and sounds very welcome.

    Enjoy πŸ™‚

P/s: Pumpkin bread – I can savour the aroma πŸ™‚

    • It sounds like you’re on the same page, Eric. We change out our displays, too, and we love to hang decorative flags outside, as well. I love your music tradition, also, and I think we both have wonderful seasonal traditions. I wish I could share the pumpkin bread. πŸ™‚ Wishing you and your wife a great weekend! πŸ‚πŸπŸ˜Š

  3. Aww – Copper’s so sweet in this pic, who could resist those eyes?! πŸ˜„
I’ve never considered to make some Autumn cleaning or changes to welcome the new season, somehow I only always do this in spring. I tend to burrow myself in lots of blankets and fluffy pillows, hibernating in a way. πŸ˜‰ But I also look forward to all that baking and the spicy aromas that will fill my home, pumpkin pie is one of my favourites. πŸ˜„ xoxo πŸ’•πŸπŸŒ»
