Transformation

I find myself going the wrong way
at rapid speed and I’m so preoccupied
that I miss the gap in the road before
tumbling in. Darkness surrounds me
with verve. A smooth texture is cool
under my fingertips and less frightening
than my imagination. Still, uncertainty
and fear consume me. Strength has always
been my friend. Weakness has been an
acquaintance. I rely on my friend and
ever so slowly, with fingers gripping each
little crevice, I find my way out and am
blessed to feel sunshine on my shoulders

    • Thanks, G! The weekend was great, productive and relaxing and I’m sorry to see it ending soon. 🙂 I hope yours has been good, too, and yes, this is fiction. But that’s not to say I haven’t been in a place described in the poem. I think many have but as long as we are able to pull out of the darkness then those moments are only memories. Hugs back!

    • Thanks so much, Michelle. There was a time when I was reluctant to post darker poems. Mine tended to always be happy. Then a friend encouraged me to post them all because that’s what life is made of…many experiences, some happy, some not. Unfortunately sometimes the darker times can be great inspiration for poetry. 🙂 I’m always happy with sunshine though…have a good evening!

  1. Great poem Lauren, which I am sure many of us can relate to. Although I am relieved to hear the darkness in this particular poem is fiction. A good one to keep by you for tougher times when you need to be reminded of the ‘smooth texture’ and know that it is still there for you no matter what ❤️ ️Xxx

    • Thanks, Chris, and what a good idea for the poem. It’s always great to keep that “smooth texture” in mind even if it’s buried deep. As long as we can dig it up to see the light again, it’s all worth it. 🙂 Hugs! ♥
