Am I Nocturnal? :)

Counting-Sheep

I count the sheep grazing above me
In the shadows, horses prance, gracefully
It may hold the answers, so I fluff my pillow
waiting with anticipation for it to be my hero
but to no avail, my eyelids will not fall
Instead, I return to watching the ceiling and walls
I’m constantly flopping, left, right, belly, back
with a brand new mattress, it’s not comfort I lack
How I wish to dream of a distant land
with stretches of beaches and soft golden sand
or a hike in the woods to the song of the birds
Currently, though, I wish not to think “words”
except one special consonant would bring me great glee
and that wonderful letter is a CAPITAL ZZZZ!

    • Aww…brilliant? You’re too funny, Marina, but thank you! Early one morning I couldn’t sleep, so I wrote this silly poem! Glad you enjoyed it and cheers to many soothing zzzzzzz! Happy May 1st to you, too! I can’t believe how fast time flies! 🙂 Many hugs to you!

  1. And the more you think about it, the worse it gets. Sometimes when that happens I try to stay awake instead, and that usually makes me go to sleep.

    • That’s true, Binky, and usually I get up, but sometimes, I’m too tired to get up even though I can’t sleep! 🙂 This poem, however, came to mind in the wee hours of the morning! 🙂

  2. Lauren my sister, you are dear to me! There is a song i sing to myself whenever I cannot go to sleep at night, and it makes me smile and quickly find rest. Bing Crosby sings it from “White Christmas” called “Counting My Blessings”, i have attached it here for you ….http://youtu.be/DXKxazgio2s…have a restful sleep!

    • Aww…Wendell, you are so sweet! I love that movie and song and will try it! I think my brain just won’t agree with my body with so much on my mind, but the last night was better..thank you and have a great weekend, my friend!

  3. I’m quite nocturnal, in fact I am known as nocturnal by a lot of people. I sort of love it because it gives me time for myself but in saying that it’s not great for my health. I gave up counting sheep, dogs, cats, horses, cows and all sorts of animals a long time ago when I was about 12. Now I don’t even bother going to bed until I can’t keep my eyes open. But when you find something that works, let me know xxx

    • You’re too funny, Bianca, and yes, it’s probably not good for your health to get little sleep. I’m not into taking meds or anything, so I’m just trying to relax and use a mind over matter strategy. Last night was better, so one night at a time! I hope you can find some soothing sleep soon, too! xxx

    • I never used to, Diane; it’s hormonal, but there are other things occupying my mind these days and once in awhile, I’m sleep deprived! Very frustrating, but taking it one day at a time! Thanks for your kind words, though, they are always appreciated! Hugs! xo

  4. I think you wrote this for me… LOL… Always having sleepless nights.. Much love and I hope you always have Sweet Dreams dear Lauren xxxx Hugs to you and take care of you .. xxx Sue

    • I’m sorry you’re going through the same as me, Sue! It started last year (all hormonal), but I’m avoiding taking anything, so trying mind over matter. Some nights are good, some aren’t. I thought I would make light of it here, even though it’s a little frustrating. I never thought I would long for a solid night’s sleep, as I’ve never had this issue before.Oh the joys of early 50’s! 🙂 Wishing you all the same, my friend! Big hugs! xo

Your thoughts are always welcome!
