Games

Just yesterday, the score was even
but now I see you’re in the lead.
I apologize for my lack of
attention to the rules
or understanding a clearer
strategy. I was never the
best at playing games.
You were so much
better than me.

You had me fooled with
your moves sweet as
honey, though, I still feel like
a winner in the best of
reality. They say hind-sight
is twenty-twenty and now
I believe it to be so. For
with or without you, I’m
no longer feeling empty
and you are now nothing
but a bitter memory.

    • Thanks, Sheila, (I think :))…I do write about things that I’m sure many can relate to and I usually add strength, feeling there is no other option. I know strength sometimes isn’t present, though…and I’m glad I made you smile. This had a hint of fun, truth and sarcasm for April Fool’s Day! 🙂 xx

  1. many years ago, when dinosaurs walked the earth LOL, one of my fav songs was by a Christian group, DeGarmo & Key called All of the Losers Win. Your poem reminded me of that Lauren, no matter who p[lays the games, they never really WIN. Great poem!!

    • You’re right, Michael, no one wins; someone is going to lose and get hurt, but I guess that’s life! Eventually, though, the one that is hurting finds happiness, or at least that’s how I choose to see it. 🙂 Thanks for your comparison (made me smile) and for your kind words, too!

    • Thanks so much! I appreciate your comment and kind words! This was just kind of fun to write and I’m sure many of us have had similar experiences…I’ll be visiting you soon, too!

  2. The title is apt, Lauren. If love becomes a game where both parties seek to make a pawn or fool out of the other, then only one result is certain. And it’s not at all pleasant.

Your poems touch on matters of life. Love this a lot.

Hey, I never got the chance to properly thank you for wishing me a quick recover. Thanks for coming by my blog 🙂

    • Thanks for your kind words, Uzo, and I’m glad to see you back, too! You don’t have to thank me, either. 🙂 I always appreciate your visits when you have the time…take care and have a wonderful evening! Hugs and blessings!

    • Thanks so much, Charlene, for your insightful comment. Honestly, I almost deleted this one! 🙂 But I’m glad you and others did enjoy it and strength is what we need for many of life’s encounters…have a great Monday, my friend! ♥

      • Ahh, we have something in common writing-wise. I am so glad that you did not delete because you never know how you may touch someone when you provoke deep thoughts as this piece certainly did. I can see that you and I both are beginning to be more open with our words (although honesty is foremost with us both)…I went through the exact same battle in making a decision to publish my latest post, but I guess it’s all a part of growing…progressing. It all pays off in the end because our initial apprehensions dissipate when we simply ‘go for it’. Happy Monday to you too, my friend! ❤

      • You’re right and I’m actually amazed at the complements I’ve received! 🙂 Every so often, there will be a poem that I’ll publish and then wish I hadn’t. It doesn’t happen as often as it did in the beginning of blogging, but it does happen…I will check your post out tonight. When hubby’s watching basketball, I’ll be blogging! 🙂 Thanks so much for your encouraging comments, so from here on out, let’s both just “go for it!” ♥

  3. Also glad you didn’t delete, Lauren. This one is not as negative as it might seem, as understanding what hurts us can be so transforming. And there is a lot of game playing in love out there … one of the reasons I don’t actively seek it again. What is meant to be knows where to find us! XO ♥

    • Aww…thanks, Diane, for your reassuring comment. It’s very sad about all the game playing and honestly, I’m glad to not be a part of it, either..whether single or married. I love your last line and it could be the beginning of a poem. 🙂 Sending hugs!
