Foul Ball

Bad news doesn’t discriminate
One day we’re celebrating,
drinking champagne
then in a blur’s time,
we’re wiping tears away

We strengthen our defense
without even trying
at the same time,
praying and sliding

While the outcome relies deeply
on the strength in our mitts
Will it knock us down
or keep us going
without limits?

If you land on your bum
for a minute or two
taking time to sulk
feeling bad for you,
It’s alright
that’s all part of life

but don’t pack your bags
and stay there too long
You’ll feel much better
Fighting the Fight
Keeping your Face to the Light
and Trying to be Strong

  1. Absolutely Lauren and well expressed. Since my diagnosis and its subsequent debilitating effects. I often have times when I feel “it’s not fair” but have learned to allow myself just a short time to fell like this because it’s real and human. But then it’s got to be about getting on with life end not letting this or anything beat me down. ❤ Xxx

    1. Thanks, Chris, I know how easy it is to say “it’s not fair” and you have every right…but I guess it’s also about accepting what we can’t change. It’s so difficult and honestly, these last two paragraphs are for myself, too, regarding some things in life…in my eyes, you will always be an inspiration! Sending many hugs! xoxo

  2. Many of us have to face things which are not justified. The only thing we can do is to do the best we can with what we have, even though it can be very difficult at times.

  3. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again….that old song came to mind when I was reading this.

I hope the sun is again shining in your life Lauren, in every sense. I find the knocks in life get harder to take as I get older but the choices are still the same. Let them defeat us (NEVER) or get up and try again. Thanks for the reminder! 🙂

    Happy Weekend to you, G

  4. Wonderful insight into life and how she throws us those curved balls from time to time…I agree we just have to keep batting.. and carry on in the Game of Life..I have found those knocks in life have strengthened me even more …Sending you a BIG hugs…. Love to you Lauren.. Sue xxx

    1. Thanks, Sue, and yes, just keep batting and playing the Game of Life…it’s challenging sometimes, but more rewarding, too! Thanks for the hugs and returning some back to you for a wonderful weekend! Much love to you, too! xoxo

    1. No, there’s no “chicken exit!” 🙂 We should somehow move forward and not take the path of least resistance. Sorry for my late reply, Geo, but I appreciate you stopping by!
