Sweet Rejection

chocolate-covered-strawberries

I offered you my love on a silver platter
lined with chocolate dipped strawberries
You tasted, but only to tease
Instead, you stole my happiness
right out of my hands
although my grip was strong
Very brazen, even for you
and itΒ wasn’tΒ yours for the taking
My heart was wrong for breaking,
but I allowed it
I had a choice and chose the weak path
That was yesterday
Today, my wrath is leading the way
and I will not let you ruin my tomorrows

    • Aww…thanks, Cha, for your very kind words! And, yep, it is hard without chocolate..I’m trying to be healthier, too, and if I’m craving something sweet, I’ll just take a bite! πŸ™‚ Big hugs to you, too, my friend!

  1. Powerful words Lauren! With added strength. Its so easy to allow our happiness to be taken away by someone. Its a very big and difficult subject. As John Powell says in his book, “happiness is an inside job” but its not that easy.

      • ❀ What a lovely comment back! I worried you might think my tone was in some way talking down to you. I would never do that as your poetry is wonderful, always. I'm glad you saw my intention – and that we are both exploring poetic paths!! Really, I am so happy to know you xx

  2. Wow – that’s a great one! I like the feeling that comes through of taking control and realizing that we’re the only ones who can truly make ourselves happy (especially when chocolate-covered strawberries are in the vicinity)! xo

Your thoughts are always welcome!
