Timeless

timeless love photo

The years around my eyes
have a way of surprising me
because deep down inside
I feel amazingly youthful

but, when expected changes
begin to surface
no disguise is possible
for they are openly truthful

So, My Love, will you still see
the beauty from back then
and will you hold fast to
what lies within?

(Author’s note: I believe this is something
most people think of when they’re growing
older together.  But, my words don’t
reflect any insecurity in my own marriage.
All is great there! )

  1. Lauren this is so lovely. The first two lines say it all. I think we grow into beauty as we get older rather than grow out of it.

But those “years around my eyes” keep on surprising me too. We don’t have to change inside though do we? 🙂

    Beautifully expressed as ever.

    ❤ HBL xxxx

    • Aww..Christine, your comments are always so beautiful and I thank you for them! And, no, we don’t have to change on the inside. I know I haven’t, but I was just thinking about the emphasis on outward appearances and what really matters is on the inside, in the heart and soul…thanks so much, my friend…HBL to you, too! ♥

    • Beautiful words, Eric, and I agree…it’s funny, I didn’t write this, wondering about my own marriage. We’re secure there…but I think others have interpreted that way…it’s a subject I thought about because we are getting older and have been married for a long time…maybe I’ll add an author’s note now! Thanks for reading and I’m behind on your posts, but will be there soon! Hugs!

  2. What is within always outshines what is outside, and yet even then it surely enhances and gives a taste of a fountain of youth to the whole of you! My sister your beauty will be timeless…God bless you Lauren always!

    • Aww…thanks so much, Wendell, for your beautiful words and I honestly didn’t write this because of insecurity in my own marriage…but because of it, I thought of this subject…anyway, thank you again and sending hugs!

  3. Such a beautiful poem Lauren and Wendell said much of what I was thinking too. The beauty inside. I seriously believe in true love that the beauty inside actually makes one forever beautiful outwardly as well, in the eyes of her man. And that beauty is what keeps him forever wanting to proudly be her man. Hugs my friend!

    • Thanks so much, Scott, and I agree..after reading many comments, I think others interpreted me really asking this question and that wasn’t my intent. I thought of this subject because of us having been married for a long time and I’m sure many wonder in their own relationships, but not because of any insecurity in ours.. Oh well, maybe I’ll add an author’s note now! 🙂 Sending hugs back to you!

  4. Your poem stopped me in my tracks Lauren. I read it once, then read it again. Then I read the comments. Some were obviously well thought out and expressed. Others made me cringe – platitudes tossed out without thinking what the words actually meant. Regardless of the comments your writings demand that we stop and simply THINK. Virginia

  5. very well conveyed in your poem , Lauren. Personally I think that the beauty inside will over-win time and it’s toll on the body. Besides love looks through different eyes at a person anyway.
    Hugs xxxx

    • Thanks so much, Francina, and I’m so sorry for the late reply! I agree with all you said, but was thinking of this awhile ago and decided to write about it. I later added the author’s note, because it wasn’t directed at my hubby and I…sending hugs back and I’ll respond to your email tomorrow…:) xoxo

  6. Such a stunning poem, from an equally stunning poet-woman ! Just added a smile on my face – as I spent hours oil painting on canvas the inner climate of my two-pence of emotions. (chk it out on my blog if you have time – your views I always cherish!).

Thank you very much for sharing your world via poetry with the rest of us — who simply adore you, my dear friend. Hugs.

    • Aww…Shaheen, your comments always seem to soothe and make me sigh..you are so kind, my friend, and I can say the same to you, as well! Sorry for the late reply, too! Sending many hugs your way…
