Unspoken

Your words are
empty syllables
floating in the sky
How naive I’d have to be
to miss the depth
in your eyes

Two like ships we are
with enough disparity
to balance the scale
but not enough
to change
the direction of the sail

Yet, parting ways
is what your heart
has chosen for us now
I’ll accept,
but not much time
will my heart allow

Love is deeply stronger
than any heavy fear
when you unlock the gates
and turn the key
you’ll find
I’ve always been near

  1. Perhaps his lips do not utter words weighty enough, but the “depths of his eyes” – what an epic of love they weave. She is right to wait by the door.

These words sprang to the fore.

See, what you’ve done again, Lauren. It is your entire fault 🙂 if you make me so.

    Luv and hugz, Eric 🙂

  2. This is beautiful, showing how true love can and will withstand what it needs to; it’s up to us to have the faith and courage to open the door to it. Lovely poem, dear Lauren. ~ Love and hugs, Julie xox

    • Thanks so much, Julie, for your beautiful comment and your book came yesterday! I love the cover and I will always look up to your writing talent! I already have some faves and I just began last night, but your “Grandma” poem tugs at the heart. My step Mother-in-Law and Brother-in-Law both have ALZ and it is one of the saddest diseases…anyway, thank you and many hugs back!

      • Oh hun, I’m so sorry to hear about your family members also dealing with Alzheimers – it’s so difficult not only for them but for those who love them and can only watch the progression of the disease. (((Gentle hugs))).

I’m so honored that you bought my book, and thank you for the lovely compliments on my writing! Dear friend; may it give you much reading enjoyment. The cover artwork is by Selena Howard, and I’m delighted with it – I’ll let her know how much you like it as well; she’ll be so happy to know that. Wishing you a wonderful day! xoxox

  3. Beautiful poem Lauren and since I first read it days ago I’ve felt like I could have written it. I’ve learned how love can be blind and kind and also learned how my own blindness can steer me in the wrong direction onto a one way path.
Hope you’re having a good week my friend. Hey, I love the new header here. Here and now…

  4. Thanks, Scott, and your complement means a lot, as you are one poet I look up to on WP. And believe me or not, I have felt exactly what your words convey, too. My dating days weren’t all beds of roses. Thanks for the header complement, also. That motto just fits right now…hugs!

Your thoughts are always welcome!
